OCA National: Anna May Wong Coin Frame

I created a commemorative quarter frame celebrating Anna May Wong’s filmography in Hollywood and Europe that were given as gifts at OCA National’s 2023 Convention that marked 50 years of advocacy.

I researched her life and filmography to create this movie poster concept celebrating her roles and iconic costumes in Hollywood and Europe, with her quarter nestled in her Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Anna May Wong sits atop the poster to represent the leading role she was often denied during her career, but one she played in advocating for representation in her field for generations to come. The yellow willow is there to pay tribute to her Chinese name and cultural roots, as well as Sam Kee Laundry, the laundromat her family ran when she grew up in LA’s Chinatown.
